With billions of web pages and around 300 million domains currently on the Internet, how will potential customers find you? Type your domain name in their browser Search with your business name Search for a service or product you provide Search for a service or product near them Thousands of companies pay thousands of dollars on a web site design and customers can only find them using the first two methods, greatly limiting the ability of the web site design to attract new customers. Why is this happening and how can your company stand out? A website must be easily categorized by Google, AOL and other search engines. FrameSets = Poor rankings - While there are numerous tricks to improve listing performance with frame based sites, most are ineffective and many will result in penalties rather than higher rankings. Tip - if you want high rankings, don't use Frames. Keywords - While Keywords themselves are not highly considered in search engine algorithms, they are an important part of an effective strategy. After all, search engine success is based on how easily people find what they are looking for and the body of the page needs to contain information relevant to their search. Domain Name - Yes, search engines look at the domain name when ranking sites. However, it is important your domain name be short and easy to find, so the opportunities here are inherently limited. Spam - Just like you get this in your mailbox, search engines get spammed by sites whose content is not relevant to the user's search. That is why a lot of methods for increasing search engine rankings, like hiding text on a page,  using too many keywords or tricks using the FrameSets are penalized by these engines.  A site's rankings decline over time Why? Competition! - When you move up in the rankings, someone else must move down. To actively compete in search engine rankings, you will need to monitor your position and make appropriate changes to improve your ranking every few weeks - your competition is!
